The Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority and Gulftainer, a regional operator of ports and terminals, have agreed to extend their concession agreements for a further 35 years. The extension reinforces their joint commitment to upgrading the UAE's supply chain and logistics sector, particularly through the key trade gateways in the Northern Emirates: the Sharjah Container Terminal and Khorfakkan Container Terminal.

The agreement also includes plans to offer unique value propositions at both Port Khalid and the Sharjah Container Terminal, with the latter being renowned as the first container terminal in the Middle East.

The concession agreements were signed by Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Ports Customs and Free Zones Authority and Peter Richards, Group CEO of Gulftainer.

The continued collaboration between the Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority and Gulftainer across five decades, marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s maritime landscape, underscoring the value of public-private partnerships and its vital role in revolutionising port infrastructure and bolstering trade for the region and beyond.
